Event Name

International Literacy Day

Literacy -- the ability to read and write -- is the foundation for education and social development.  Yet, hundreds of millions of adults lack minimum literacy skills and millions of school-aged children are not attending school to obtain them.

The Reading Action Program is a 10-year commitment to increasing reading and literacy rates. It’s a call to action for every Lions club around the world to organize service projects and activities that underscore the importance of reading and address specific needs related to illiteracy within their own community.

Project Ideas and Resources

Literacy project ideas include supporting your local library, organizing a book drive or building a classroom for underserved children.

Plan a Literacy project in your community.

District 45 Super Raffle

This highly anticipated event gathers hundreds of members of the public for an evening of great food and fellowship with friends and neighbors from our local communities. All proceeds from the banquet and Super Raffle go to support LCIF programs and each ticket purchased by a Lions club or club member entitles them to submit a nomination for an individual to receive a Melvin Jones Fellowship.* Since 2004 this event has allowed us to present more than 115 fellowships, and generates about $10,000 for LCIF annually.

The highlight of the evening is the Super Raffle. Merchants from across the state have donated hundreds of gifts valued at or above $100 to be awarded. The Grand Prize of the evening is a cash award of $1,500. You need not be present at the banquet to win, but every attendee will receive a door prize ticket and the opportunity to purchase additional door raffle tickets. One of those may be drawn to enter the final 10 drawing for the Grand Prize. See the full raffle rules. For this year's event, for an additional $25 you can purchase 2nd Chance Insurance and your non prize winning number will be eligible for a one time 2nd chance to be re-entered into the drawings.
